Since his days as a Clarkston Chief, Matt Boczar had a passion for the sport of football, and there was nothing he loved more than being on the field with his football brothers. The sport helped shape Matt into the wonderful man he was and he was incredibly proud to share that he was a member of the 2013 & 2014 Clarkston football back-to-back State Championship teams.
As their high school days closed and the college chapter of their lives began, Matt and his teammates knew they wanted to find a way to stay connected to the sport and the community that gave them so much. In February of 2016, while at their respective colleges, Matt and his football brothers created the Clarkston Players Association whose mission is to cover the costs of athletes pay-to-play (pay to participate) fees. The pay to participate fees cover the athlete's safety and transportation costs such as, but not limited to, athletics insurance, transportation to games, and facility expenses.
In March 2020, after Matt’s sudden passing, his friends and fellow association board members renamed the Clarkston Players Association in honor of him: The Matt Boczar Foundation. The Matt Boczar Foundation will continue Matt's legacy and offer support to those players in need so they can experience just what Matt and his teammates had during their high school athletic days. Matt’s spirit of helping those in need lives on in this foundation and carries on the Wolves tradition of brotherhood and community. It is the foundation’s future hope to not only provide fee assistance to football players, but to other Clarkston athletes as well.
